lovely long evenings in manhattan
“As the twilight sunburst gleams
as the chromium moon it sets
As I lose all my regrets
and set the twilight reeling
I accept the new found man
and set the twilight reeling”
-Lou Reed (excerpt from Set the Twilight Reeling)
I talk more than I listen. Tonight proved to be a bit different… then again, that’s often the case when I hang out with Guy. He’s quite the talker too – with his never-ending supply of esoteric knowledge to pass on to me. We also happen to share the same taste in music, and he has some kick ass speakers; had he stayed in UCourt, I would practically be living in his room, thanks to his music library.
I see his point for leaving NYU Housing. I would have done the same thing if I were hired as a full-time video engineer by NBC at the age of 20.
We returned to our frequent hang out spot during the last semester: L’Express on E. 20th and Park Ave. I’m not usually a big fan of the French, but this one’s got my name written all over it. I enjoy the belgian beers – De Koninck, Delirium Tremes, Maredsous… it’s pretty much our spot. The food’s not amazing… but when you go to a 24-hour pseudo-french-bistro, you shouldn’t have such high expectations. The ambiance is great, the servers are accommodating, and I have yet to complain about anything I’ve eaten.
We had our usual spiels about relationships (and lack thereof) and complications with other individuals in our lives. It never ceases to amuse me that we manage to do this each time that we go out (but then, what would you expect to go hand in hand with a fantastic bottle of beer??)
I finally had the chance to see the Bleecker St. apartment.
He is definitely living in a Manhattan apartment.
We drank a little more at his place and jammed to some Talking Heads, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rolling Stones, Rage Against the Machine, and Jamiroquai… it was a nice combination of hits from the 80s and 90s, etc. I’d have stayed longer, but I would have fallen asleep within the next hour if I kept going… so I left sometime past 12:30 AM and walked back to UCourt.
I really miss our late evening chats and unwinding to jazz till 5:00 in the morning… I listened to Coltrane’s, A Love Supreme, on my way back…
