BOOKER T. & THE MG’S with guest SHARON JONES
I was a little concerned that the show would get cancelled because it looked as though it was going to rain… and it was cold outside…
Booker T & the MG’s were sooo awesome; when they started playing “Green Onions” and “Big Train” on stage, people were flippin’ out! There were a bunch of random women dancing all over the place… it was sort of amusing/funny/cute. And when you throw in Sharon Jones for a touch of soul (especially with a song like “Sitting on the Dock” by Otis) and lots of vocal improvs… it was damn near perfect.
There’s a lot of other performers coming in for the River to River Fest… it’s well-worth checking out if you’re around in the city…
PS – Guy took me to this tiny pizza place hangout on West Houston called Arturo’s. The pizza reminded me so much of Grimaldi’s Pizza in Brooklyn, with the exception that this place sported a bit of jazz… there was a pianist and a bass player jammin’ to some tunes when we got there. Order yourself a large mushroom pizza with prosciutto and a bottle of Brooklyn Lager and you’re set for the evening. Enjoy.
