Aura
A slightly different scene than what I’m used to…think top 40s music, lots of hip-hop, and a touch of old-school r&b.
After a borderline three year affair on facebook and AIM, I was finally able to put a face behind the voice and the name, Angelo. I can see why my parents liked him or, at least, why my mother told me that I should probably meet him (mind you, this was well before I even left for NYU three years ago).
We ended up meeting at Regal Union Square to catch Fantastic 4 with Elie – lol. That movie is so cheesy… the script was horrible, but the guys who constantly cracked jokes on all the campiness made it worth my while. Besides, I haven’t seen Elie in a while, and I found a decent venue to meet Angelo. From there, we headed to Cosmic Cantina, because I was craving nachos with guacamole, grilled chicken, and diced tomatoes – yummmmmmm…. then we went to Aura…
Slightly VIP – we had to “know” some people inside to get in and whatnot… the music was decent (not loud enough for my taste… and not the best to get me moving). It was very crowded upstairs by the time we hit 1:00 AM and extremely hot downstairs with a constantly growing crowd past 2:30 AM… if you’re looking to dance (and not necessarily “grind” the night away) this isn’t the place to visit. Drinks are decently priced and there’s an open vodka bar from 10-11 PM… ladies automatically get in free as long as they know someone in the guestlist. I think I knew someone on the list…
Afterwards, I went back to One and One to meet Radeeb. I haven’t seen him in a while since he left for London. We’ve got plans for a real get-together in the near future (because apparently he doesn’t stay out as late as I do – as if 5:30 AM is late).
